My Business is My Hobby

I’ve just spent a couple of days in Mauritius visiting our partner and a couple of customers.  I know, what a wonderful place to do business. Well it’s not without its challenges and every time I arrive, I’m greeted with torrential rain.

It was a great opportunity to spend time sharing ideas with IMS, our local partner, and learn more about their business. One of the people I was fortunate enough to meet is the founder and MD of Pascal Computer Services, Akil Pirbhai. Over a cup of coffee Akil, who is also a founding member of IMS, told me about his journey, creating Pascal Computer Services over the past 20 years. He faced the same challenges we all face creating a new business. When he got started the banks didn’t want to fund him, his business grew out of a garage and every day presented new challenges.

What really excited me is that now, twenty years later, Akil describes his business as his hobby. Pascal Computer Services is something he is passionate about and he looks forward to going into the office everyday. Like any entrepreneur, he spends a lot of his time looking into the future. What does he see? Akil sees cloud computing and Apple setting the trend in the years to come. We agree and we’re looking forward to hosting some of our applications in their cloud.

As always the IMS team looked after me really well, shuttling me to and from meetings, introducing me to their contacts and organizing some wonderful meals.
